Listen & Enjoy Some Flute Snippets
Hello Sarah,
I am just writing to offer our sincere thanks to you for your Meditative Flute during Flora in Winter. We heard many compliments from guests over the three days. The beautiful atmosphere your music created was a pleasure to experience. We would love to have you here again in the future.

Jade
From Trois pièces pour flûte - sans accompagnement.
A beautiful piece composed in 1921 by Pierre-Octave Ferroud.
What is so sad is that he died young, age 36, in an accident. His compositional output could have been so much more otherwise. What other beautiful music lived within him that never came to fruition?
Jade is the second movement of three from Ferroud’s Trois pièces pour flûte – (sans accompagnement).
I found this piece only recently among music gifted to me. So this is ‘pure’ Sarah – no coaching (although coaching is always helpful).
Capriccio
Cappricio No. 10b, Op. 3 in d minor is one of several capriccios composed by Friedrich Kuhlau (1786-1832). Kuhlau was born in Germany but moved to Denmark at age 24 and later became a Danish citizen. Kuhlau was a pianist although I often think of him as a flutist as he wrote so many compositions for flute including a number of duets for two flutes. All are particularly well-suited to the tonal expressive nature of the flute.
Presto
Presto from W.F. Bach Duet in F
The New England Flute Duo, Virginia Sindelar and Sarah Smongeski.
W.F. Bach’s duets are a terrific example of contrapuntal composition. Of course, he no doubt learned from the master, his dad J.S. Bach.
Greensleeves
Greensleeves to a Ground
My colleague, Kristjon Imperio, and I created this short Christmas recording at the West Boylston Congregational Church during the COVID closures.
